Eucharisto

by Kitty Jospé

I learn it means thank you in modern Greek,

but carries the reciprocal meaning of gift

granted and received— how overtones sneak

in to imply exchange of grace

like these trees, more like wraiths in space…

— each naked twig pliant, as if to receive

the rising shroud of fog.  The gift they leave

is an impression of timeless embrace.
