or, ‘On my way to the Public Library to Pick Up Li Po’s Selected Poems, I See an Optical Illusion Created by Garbage’
by Celie Katovitch
Plastic bag, milk carton, and fold
of aluminum.
They gather themselves,
shining,
blown upright by the wind,
into three white birds
there in a line
against
the fence.
My God,
Even these dull eyes that miss so much
cannot help but transform
the sin-bittered world
into
something beautiful.
Celie Katovitch serves as pastor of the First Universalist Church of Rochester, around the corner from the Central Library.
